Olympus just revealed their new top of the line Micro Four Thirds camera which will set an all new high standard for the Compact System category.
The revolutionary new mirrorless camera is light and compact which is everything you’d expect to see in a camera of this category, however there are some outstanding features you wouldn’t expect in a camera of this size.
Olympus has integrated a new electronic viewfinder in the OM-D and with 100% field-of-view coverage and 1.15x maximum magnification you’ll see better than ever true to life images that will have you in awe. One clever little feature not seen before is the advanced digital image processing functions all viewable via the EVF allowing you to see the effects of Highlights, Shadow Control, White Balance, Exposure Compensation, Aspect ratio and a slew of other advanced digital image processing functions. The new EVF is something that I think will give the best of us a rise as it’s true to life clarity is going to minimise time spent with post production work and aside from that will give you unlimited creative control.
Another key factor to mention about the OM-D is the unprecedented image quality brought about by the 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor and advanced TruPic VI image processor working together to capture those brilliant colour rich photos with high resolution, sensitivity and colour accurate photos we all aspire to take. ISO 200-25600.
Olympus definitely got a high out of presenting the OM-D boasting a world first 5-axis image stabilisation system which not only compensates for vertical and horizontal camera shake but also rotational, pitching and yawing, of which the conventional 2-axis stabilisation systems of the past have struggled to handle. When shooting HD Movies this feature will perform at its peak, eliminating breathing movement and also the shake you get when walking. While we’re on the topic of HD Movies – 1080P HD Movie Recording is a must and Olympus have kindly integrated this into their arsenal feature set in the OM-D.
Thanks to the new 16 megapixel Live MOS image sensor’s high-speed read-out performance, the OM-D offers maximum sequential shooting at 9 frames per second, making it easy to capture fast moving subjects or sports subjects.
Overall the OM-D is an amazing camera which hasn’t compromised a thing due to it’s size. Previously we have noticed that some CSCs usually compromise on potential due to their size but Olympus haven’t missed a beat with the OM-D – there’s even the inclusion of some features like Dust-Proof and Splash-Proof, a tilting 3″ OLED Touch Screen LCD and Olympus’ well known World’s fastest* Auto-focusing system with improved new 3D Tracking making every moment perfectly captured with subjects moving both toward and away from you. The Olympus OM-D is a groundbreaking new Compact System Camera perfect for people who want to “take part,” “create” and “share.”
