Photo Friday – HOLIDAYS – Noel Davidson
‘Photo Friday’ is a weekly photography competition that Camera House Australia runs. Every week we choose a new theme and prize, and this week the winner was Noel Davidson who entered a beautiful image for the theme: HOLIDAYS.
We asked Noel a few questions about his image, and this is what he had to say:
Q.What inspired this photo?
A.While I was photographing the waterfall in Myanmar my attention diverted towards a group of young energetic Buddhist monks happily enjoying their leisure time by playing games and going in for a swim. I thought I would take the opportunity to gather them up and take a group shot in front of the falls. They were certainly obliging and posed away and it was definitely a lasting memory. I have always thought Monks were confined within monasteries and only adhered to strict religious practices. Seeing them out in the open enjoying their leisure time was an eye opener and made me realise even with their chosen lifestyle they can always go out and enjoy the simple things in life.
Q.What camera did you use?
A. Canon 5D Mark III body and Canon 17-40mm wide angle f/4 Lens
Q. What setting did you use?
A. f/6.3, 1/800sec, ISO 400, focal length 19mm
Q.Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program?
A. I used Lightroom to make basic highlights, shadows, whites/blacks adjustments and exported it into Photoshop for a few minor tweaks, added watermark, resized and sharpened for web.
Q. Do you have any advice for our community photographers?
A. Always have your camera ready as things can come up unexpectedly and it could be a missed opportunity to capture something special. I was very lucky in my situation. Knowing your camera settings is always handy and think outside the box to capture something different but most of all have fun and get out.
