Photo Friday Industrial Winner Chez!
What camera did you use?
I used a 5DmkII with a 24-70L on a Sherpa tripod with a remote trigger.
What settings did you use?
I set the focus using “auto” then switched to manual so after I framed the shot how I wanted it, it wouldn’t focus on the background. I got my friend to start welding and fired 6-7 shots for 2 seconds, then repeated the process to get the frames I needed.
What inspired this shot?
The brief “Industrial”. I pretty much saw that and decided that this was something that I would really like to put some effort into. I come from an industrial background and it just made me think of how many cool things there are in that environment that would be great to capture. I chose the welding because it’s something that you don’t normally get to see like this.
Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program?
Yes. This is actually a composite of three images from a set of 7 frames. I used Photoshop CS 5 to create a HDR styled image by making bracketed images from single RAW files then blended them together using layer masks.
Do you have any advice for our community of photographers?
Think outside the square. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Also, don’t think that Photoshop is cheating, post production of some sort is essential and can be very complicated. So if you don’t do some form of editing to your work, you’re holding yourself back.
Where was this photo taken?
At a friend’s workshop, on top of a trash can using two pieces of rubbish.
