Photo Friday Landscape Winner – Michael
What inspired this photo?
I’ve been inspired by astrophotography due to fascination with grandeur of space. I’ve been experimenting and refining wide field astrophotography photos for the last one and a half years with many trips to the Pinnacles (and other locations).
What camera did you use?
Canon 6D with a Tokina 11-16mm F2.8
What settings did you use?
15 photos at ISO 2000 16mm F2.8 30s – photographing clockwise from the bottom right. I did this on a consideration of where the milky way would be in the sky to reduce the drift due to the earths rotation.
Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program?
The panorama is stitched together using PTGUI and then processed in photoshop. This has included noise control, curves, sharpening, some dodge and burn and slight colour balancing and saturation adjustments.
Do you have any advice for our community of photographers?
Learn as many techniques as possible as this will open up opportunities. Visualise, plan and experiment lots. Be amazed by wondrous photos and see it as a challenge. Accept that there is always people better/different and benchmark yourself against yourself for improvement. Mix with a few people who will help bring you higher – no matter what you think you know, someone else’s point of view (especially someone you respect) will make things better.
