Photo Friday – LIGHTS – Robert Skidmore
‘Photo Friday’ is a weekly photography competition that Camera House Australia runs. Every week we choose a new theme and prize, and this week the winner was Robert Skidmore who entered a magical image for the theme: LIGHTS.
We asked Robert a few questions about his image, and this is what he had to say:
Q.What inspired this photo?
A. I love the beauty and intensity that mother nature can create. Something that can amaze you can also kill and it is very amazing to witness and capture.
Q.What camera did you use?
A. I used a Nikon D7100 with a 55-300mm lens.
Q. What setting did you use?
A. I ran f/5, Is0-100 and 15sec exposure and used a tripod and wireless trigger to avoid shake in the image.
Q.Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program?
A. I used Element’s 13 and just lowered the brightness and raised the color a tad to compensate as the lightning being so bright meant anything longer than 15sec exposure may have blown out the lightning itself.
Q. Do you have any advice for our community photographers?
A. If shooting lightning I would always just say Safety Safety Safety. Be well ahead or behind the storm. Be aware of the roads and surrounding’s. Always use a remote trigger so you can set up your camera and shoot while sitting in your car. And a tripod to avoid any blur with longer exposures. But firstly always remember the dangers and risks to avoid putting yourself in un-needed dangers.
