Photo Friday Minimalism Winner Diane
What camera did you use? Canon 7D EOS
What settings did you use? River way in the foyer area using my Canon 7D EOS and lens – Canon EFS 15-85mm and settings: f/5; ISO-100; 1/15 sec; focal length 55mm (no flash).
What inspired this shot? I was inspired to take the photo as I could see the potential of the simplistic setting, the contrast of the plant sitting on the shelf against the vibrant orange background was appealing. The colour orange to me symbolises joy and happiness and a ‘pick-me’ up feeling. When taking the photo, the challenge for me was to line up the shelf as straight as possible, taking into account rule of thirds for visual effects.
Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program? I edited the photo using PhotoScape (a free software program downloaded from the Internet) to enhance colours and contrast. I had to slightly straighten the shelf and use the clone stamp tool to remove the small hinges (holding up shelf) to eliminate distractions.
Do you have any advice for our community of photographers? My advice for keen photographers in the community is take each day as it comes, enjoy the moment and keep on practicing … New doorways begin to open as our perception of the world starts to look different though the lens of a camera. Becoming acquainted with like-minded photographers on Facebook with different skills level can be very inspiring, as we can all learn from each other’s experiences and challenges. Don’t be afraid to step out and try something different and develop your own unique style.
I enjoy all aspects of photography and my favourites include macro, abstract and people. I like to challenge each week the Camera House Photo Friday photography brings to light and enjoy looking at the other entries.
Where was this photo taken? I enjoy going to River way to take lots of photos of the beautiful scenery while the kids go for a swim in the pool. The photo I entered in Camera House Photo Friday ‘minimalism’ theme was taken at Pinnacles Gallery.
