What inspired this shot? Before buying a house, my partner and I decided to go on the trip of a lifetime to Africa while we still had the opportunity. The trip planning was 2 years in the making and was actually what inspired my passion in photography and first purchase of a DSLR after I decided if I was going on such a trip I wanted to get some great photos as a keepsake. During this particular morning safari, we got lucky and the grounds were abuzz with activity for a couple of minutes where there seemed to something happening in every direction. One such direction is where this photo was taken, a magical moment that I feel truly privileged to have experienced; after all it’s not every day you find yourself looking out upon a pair of zebras galloping in front of a flamingo filled lake is it, so I guess that is what inspired this shot! A true highlight of the trip and a print of the photo holds a special place on the wall of our home.

Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program? I used Photoshop to make some basic adjustments which included boosting the colour intensity a little, straightening the horizon (it can be difficult to keep a camera level while panning), lifting the shadows a little, sharpening up the details and cropping in a bit tighter.

Do you have any advice for our community of photographers? Practice your skills and make sure you’re familiar with your equipment and how to use it. Make the most of the opportunities that are presented to you and go out of your way to make your own opportunities. Be prepared, there’s nothing more frustrating as a photographer than being at the right place at the right time without the right gear you need to take a shot. Keep your eyes open, there’s beauty and interest to be found in subjects everywhere throughout this world.

Where was this photo taken? Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, Africa.
