Photo Friday Winner Gemma Boys – Delicate
What inspired this photo?
I went out to Araluen Botanical Garden with a friend for macro photos and he stumbled upon a lot of different shrooms,I’ve seen great macro shroom shots before, a few of his in particular, so really wanted to give it a go myself!
What camera did you use?
Nikon D5100 with my Sigma 105mm lens
What settings did you use?
F3.2, 1/250sec, ISO 100, 105mm focal length on my Sigma 105mm, no flash
Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program?
I used Photoshop to straighten out the horizon and crop the image in tighter. Then enhanced vibrance, contrast and brightness, along with slight dodging and burning to create the vignetted edges and the brighter center. The DOF was achieved in camera. A slight sharpen mask was added as well to pump up the fine details in the gills of the shroom! I also removed a leaf that was out of focus in the foreground that took attention away from the tiny little stems.
Do you have any advice for our community of photographers?
Keep trying! I had hundreds of photos to sort through from this outing from different angles, DOF etc so make sure you try different compositions of the same item otherwise you’ll wish you had once you see them on screen!
