Through the lens of our winner Karen
What camera did you use? Nikon D700 – Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8 VR lens
What settings did you use? Focal Length 200 – SS 1/500 – Aperture 2.8
What inspired this shot? The heat and wanting to capture the joy of the simple (or in this case the guilty) pleasures of life – playing under the hose… The kids were having a ball squirting each-other and themselves (and me on more than one occasion). I was hoping for some interesting shots as Isabel was back-lit by the afternoon sun and with the spray of water I felt it was a great combination…
Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program? Very little editing but as the image was shot in raw (therefore quite flat) I played a bit with the sliders in light-room – slight increase to Recovery, Fill Light, Blacks, Contrast and Clarity.
Do you have any advice for our community of photographers? My tip is whilst it’s important to know and understand your equipment and the general rules of photography don’t get too caught up in it – you might just miss the best photographic opportunity ever… The best images are not always technically perfect – I could pick holes in this image from a technical perspective but I loved it when I took and having it win this weeks comp only validates my point.
Where was this photo taken? My backyard.
