What inspired this shot? As with most of my photos, the image came into my head long before I did the shoot. I was in New York with my family and I imagined a little girl lost style photo, but with emphasis on contrast colour and surroundings. I stopped at a roadside cart and bought the green pashmina, it was just the colour I wanted, and we continued on our day of sightseeing, with one eye on a location. I found a gorgeous gate and steps at the back of a church in Midtown. It was perfect for what I wanted, so the shoot began. It lasted just long enough for my husband and other kids to get restless (around 10 mins) but I was happy with the end result.
Do you have any advice for our community of photographers? Try not to let the process of getting the technical aspects correct, distract you from the subject. I find so many people focus on the tech’s at the expense of the moment. At the end of the process, you need to not miss that special spilt second that the subject connects completely with the photographer.
Where was this photo taken? Manhattan, New York.
