Another addition to the EF lens family is the 28-300mm f3.5-5.6L IS USM. A pro lens in the L series, this lens delivers great shots whether you’re shooting wide angle or telephoto thanks to the 11x zoom with Image Stabilizer and silent, fast auto focus. Designed with the professional photographer in mind, the 28-300mm’s image stabilisation compensates by up to three stops with no image blur allowing you to eliminate your tripod and go hand held on many occasions.
With a 70cm minimum focusing distance throughout the entire zoom range it also makes for a great lens for ideal for close up situations.
The lens itself – like all the Canon lens in the L series has been coated to suppress ghosting and image flare. An EMD (electromagnetic diaphragm) controls aperture for fast, quiet, highly precise control.
When fitted to Canon cameras with an APS-C size sensor such as the EOS 10D, the lens has an equivalent focal length range of 45-480mm.
Good: A superb lens for the camera professional able to deliver great shots from wide angle to telephoto. Image stabilisation also increases the versatility of this lens. Weather sealed...
Bad: Obviously given the weight of this lens you don’t want to be dragging it around with you everywhere. The push pull zoom could be a deterrent for some users.
