Photo Friday – SPORT – Linda Hepburn

Linda _Hepburn_Blog

‘Photo Friday’ is a weekly photography competition that Camera House Australia runs. Every week we choose a new theme and prize, and this week the winner was Linda Hepburn who entered a amazing image for the theme: SPORT.

We asked Linda a few questions about her image, and this is what she had to say:

Q.What inspired this photo?

A.My absolute favourite kind of photography is sport.  Any kind, anywhere.

So crouching in the dirt or mud at a rodeo is not everyone’s cup of tea but I enjoy it.  The rodeo was held locally and the photo was taken in the last few minutes of light.

Q.What camera did you use?

A.Nikon D700

Q. What setting did you use?

A. I had the settings on the camera which was a Nikon D700, on Aperture Priority at f5.6.  ISO 200, focal length 200mm and speed 1/250 second.  The aperture was set to give reasonable depth of field and with the limited light, it was touch and go whether 1/250 second would get the shot.  The ISO could have gone higher but I try to avoid noise in photos, it is just something I don’t like.  However, the movement wasn’t particularly fast and the exposure was ok.  The lens was the old Nikon 80-200  f2.8.

Q.Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program?

A.I edited using Lightroom and Photoshop to increase detail and colour and lighten the midtones and highlights.

Q. Do you have any advice for our community photographers?

A.It has to be that if you like a particular genre of photography, get out and do it as much as possible.  It doesn’t matter how much you know about photography; just know your camera and equipment and go for it!  You will soon learn.
