Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4-6.3 Lens Announced

Panasonic has just announced a new lens at CES to compliment the LUMIX G range of cameras. This lens has the longest focal length available in the Panasonic Micro Four Thirds range at 200-800mm (35mm equivalent focal length).

This lens is no doubt going to be favoured by photographers wanting to shoot landscapes and wildlife due to the focal range and also its weight – it may look big but it’s not heavy, weighing in at only 985 grams.

The lens has the usual Auto Focus and Manual Focus options located on the side at the base of the lens and also a Power O.I.S switch nearby to allow you to engage or disengage the system. All-in-all the ergonomics are comfortable and familiar to other lenses in the Panasonic range.

One standout features of the 100-400mm lens appears (or doesn’t appear for that matter) when its fully extended. Panasonic have designed a gapless construction so that no dust or light rain will enter the system when using and extended. For those shooting outdoors this feature will be welcomed with open arms.
