Photo Friday – GREEN – Colin Davis

‘Photo Friday’ is a weekly photography competition that Camera House Australia runs. Every week we choose a new theme and prize, and this week the winner was Colin Davis who entered into our GREEN theme.

We asked Colin about his image, and this is what he had to say:

Q.What inspired this photo?

A. I have always loved animal photography and so am always keen to try different angles and techniques with animals.  This was up in the Gold Coast hinterland at O’Reilly’s rainforest retreat where i was staying, attending a beautiful wedding of some good friends.  Here you get the opportunity to feed the wildlife who are not shy and will happily eat from your hand, shoulder or even from the top of your head.  With fish-eye lenses having a really short minimum focusing distance i wanted to get as close as possible to get that fish-eye effect of a big head.  They move very fast so yes this photo was the result of perseverance.

Q.What camera did you use?

A.  I used a canon 5DIII.

Q. What setting did you use?

A. Using the Tokina fish-eye 10-17, which is actually made for crop frame cameras, but you can still use it on a full frame from 15-17mm (I may get a full frame fish eye one day). Iso 800, 17mm, f5.0, 1/320.

Q. Did you edit this image, If so what did you do and with what program?

A. Yes, I touch up all my photos with light room. Nothing too fancy, just basic tone, sharpening and saturation alterations.

Q. Do you have any advice for our community photographers?

A. Find your style and follow what you love.  I love nature and wildlife photography so I spend many days, nights and weekends chasing my passion.
