Photo Friday – LIGHTS – Leon Sidik

‘Photo Friday’ is a weekly photography competition that Camera House Australia runs. Every week we choose a new theme and prize, and this week the winner was Leon Sidik who entered into our LIGHTS theme.

We asked Leon about his image, and this is what he had to say:

Q.What inspired this photo?

A. This photo was shot during the vivid light festival. I was actually disappointed on the night as I came in on the very last night of the festival, it was so crowded. So I decided to ventured else where, away from the main attraction. I was contemplating of just driving straight home but In the last minute I spotted this area near The Rocks, it was quiet and the lights were just outstanding.

Q.What camera did you use?

A. I had my Nikon D600 with the Nikon 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 (I know it’s a DX lens, sigh…).

Q. What setting did you use?

A.  I had the camera on manual, ISO 200, f8, 10sec, at 10mm.

Q. Did you edit this image, If so what did you do and with what program?

A. Yes, Photoshop. What I did was adjust the levels, add in a bit of colour in the sky/water, the. Boost the saturation.

Q. Do you have any advice for our community photographers?

A. Well… I’m not a professional photographer myself, I’m self taught and my primarily job is a draftsman (real estate). The best advice is just to go out and shoot. “Out in the field” experience is essential, you can’t get this just by going to classes or by reading books. Once you are comfortable out in the field then you have nothing to worried.
