Polaroid’s Android Interchangeable Lens Camera

We’re yet to have a hands on go with this camera but let it be heard “Polaroid have just announced a new Wi-Fi, Android based Compact System Camera”. While this may seem a step up from the Samsung Galaxy Camera released late 2012 we’re yet to see. Yes it is Android based which is much the same as the Galaxy but with the Samsung having their beautifully refined Jellybean Operating System as found on their phones it will be a long shot to beat the Galaxy camera.

It has an 18 Megapixel CMOS Sensor which is actually built into the lens – odd… Yes a little but when you hear Polaroids reasoning it’s actually quite smart. They’re marketing this camera at quite a low price compared to the value it gives so there thinking was that people who will be using these cameras would be people who are not used to looking after a DSLR and with the sensor being in the lens there is no danger of getting dust on the image sensor and likewise no way of scratching.

Like any Android based product you’ll be able to update the camera when there’s new OS releases, you can connect and share your images via social media sites, transfer your images via email, search online for different shooting techniques… You name it there’s everything but the call and message function. And yes you can download most apps including Instagram 🙂

The Polaroid iM1836 doesn’t run from 4G only WiFi so you will need to be near a hotspot or alternatively you should be able to hotspot to your phone or 3G/4G enabled tablet device.

Back to the more standard features found on cameras the iM1836 has a 24x zoom lens, 18 Megapixel Sensor, 3.5″ Touch LCD Screen and a top mounted Mode dial.
