Through the lens of our winner – Jon Russell Staniland

What camera did you use? I used an Olympus e 410 DSLR

What settings did you use? 1/160s, f.8.0, 0.030 EV, ISO 100,

What inspired this shot? It’s hard not to be inspired at this location, such a great mix of grunge and urban art, a very special place. For this shot – the light was magic, streaming through the windows, casting wonderful shadows and the angel on the wall just topped it of for me…

Did you edit this image, if so what did you do and with what program? I converted it to black and white, colour just didn’t have the same impact and tended to make the picture look too busy. contrasts where adjusted. Program used was PhotoScape.

Do you have any advice for our community of photographers? Don’t be afraid of using the manual setting on your camera. When you first start out, it can be trial and error obtaining the shot you want but that’s half the fun! Also if you are shooting in auto mode, still pay attention to your WB settings it can make all the difference!

Where was this photo taken? The photo was taken at the Old Power Station – Fremantle Western Australia.
