What Accessories Do I Need for My Drone?

No matter if you’re thinking about buying a drone or if you already own one (or three), it’s important to make sure you get the right drone accessories.

The last thing you want is to launch your drone, only for it to plummet back to earth due to a flat battery or faulty propellers.

In this article, we’ll cover some essential drone accessories that every drone enthusiast should have in their kits.

Drone Propellers

Drone propellers are clearly an essential ingredient in making your camera drone fly. Most drones have four propellers, two that move in a clockwise direction and two that move in an anti-clockwise direction.

When searching for drone propellers, consider the length of the propeller and the pitch, the distance travelled by a drone in a single prop rotation. The angles of a propeller are important too. A flat blade won’t create as much lift or thrust as a more angled blade but will conserve battery power.

Also consider the material of the propeller. Various types of plastic are the most common, due to them being lightweight and inexpensive. However, they can vibrate and make noise more than a carbon fibre or a wood propeller.

Spare Battery

It’s hard to think of a worse feeling than a drone with a flat battery, especially if you’ve travelled far and wide to get to that perfect location. For this reason, a spare drone battery is a no-brainer accessory for all levels of user.

If you’re keen to pack light, you might prefer to get a car charger like this DJI Mavic Part 6, which will allow you to keep your battery charged on-the-go.

Controllers

You might own the best drone known to man but it won’t amount to much without a responsive, intuitive controller. With technology expanding so rapidly, communication methods between the drone and the controller are more accurate than ever before.

Drone controllers – like the amazing Parrot Skycontroller 2 – now readily feature pinpoint GPS, pioneering auto pilot modes, long range communication and some amazingly advanced flight modes, such as mobile app control, auto return and follow modes.

Just make sure your drone is able to use a custom controller; some of the lower end ones aren’t compatible with them.

Housing (backpacks/bags)

You never know where or when you’ll want your camera drone. Perhaps you’ll want to take it on a long hike or to an exotic location. Either way, it pays to invest in a sturdy, quality bag.

The good news is that there are plenty of great options out there, from padded backpacks to hard shelled carry cases, that have been specially designed to protect your drone and fit all your accessories.

For heavy duty protection, we recommend the Lowepro Quadguard. For a more lightweight, versatile option, try the Lowepro DroneGuard.

Goggles

If you really want to take your drone experience to the next level, these mind-blowing goggles are the answer. Experience the ultimate in immersive experiences as you become the drone.

The DJI Goggles combine a pair of large ultra-high quality screens in crystal clear 3840 x 1080 resolution, more than double the resolution of most goggles out there. It’s like looking at a 216” screen from three metres away.

What’s more, their long range wireless connectivity and direct control of photo and video capture is second to none, creating a special immersion you won’t forget.
