24.2MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
A 24.2 megapixel full-frame sensor paired with the DIGIC X processor captures rich detail, natural colours and beautiful bokeh. The larger sensor also achieves cleaner results in low light, making it ideal for portraits, travel and everyday photography.

5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilisation
In-body stabilisation is rated to 7.5 stops at the centre of the frame and 7.0 stops at the periphery under the CIPA 2024 standard. Handheld low-light shots stay sharp, whether it is a dim laneway at dusk or a candid moment on a moving train, with no tripod required. Coordinated control with compatible RF lenses extends that stability further still.

40fps Burst Shooting
The electronic shutter fires at up to 40 frames per second, so you can capture the exact moment a scene comes together without missing the shot. Shutter speeds reach 1/16000 second, giving you the headroom to freeze fast action and shoot wide open in bright light.

Pre-Continuous Shooting
Pre-continuous shooting records up to 20 frames before you fully press the shutter. A bird taking flight or a fleeting travel moment is still captured even when your reaction arrives a half-second late.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with Subject Detection
Intelligent autofocus recognises and tracks people, animals and vehicles with precision, covering dogs, cats, birds and horses alongside motorsport cars, motorcycles, aircraft and trains. Eye detection can run automatically or lock to the left or right eye, and focus holds in light as low as EV -7.5 when paired with an f/1.2 lens.

Register People Priority
Register and prioritise up to 10 people in camera and the R8 Mark II keeps focus locked on them across both stills and movies. Even in a packed street or a crowded landmark, the faces that matter stay sharp while everything else moves around them.

Uncropped 4K 60p Video
4K UHD recording at up to 60p is oversampled from 6K with no crop, retaining detail across the full width of the frame. Footage records in the space-efficient XF-HEVC S codec or the broadly compatible XF-AVC S codec, ready for demanding edits, fast turnarounds and professional video workflows.

Slow and Fast Motion Recording
Slow and Fast motion mode records Full HD at up to 180p for smooth slow motion, or compresses time for fast-motion sequences. The effect is baked directly into your footage, so there is no need to adjust playback speed in post-production.

In-Camera LUT Support
Load custom Look Files directly onto the camera and preview your creative look while you shoot. Bake the LUT into your recordings for a finished result straight out of camera, or keep it as preview only and retain complete flexibility for grading later.

Creative Filters and Filmtones
Personalise your images and videos with in-camera Creative Filters, including Positive and Negative Filmtone looks. Filter strength adjusts in 10 per cent increments, so you can fine-tune each effect from a subtle enhancement through to bold expression.
