FAQs

What photo equipment is eligible for trade in?

We accept a range of used photography and optical equipment for trade-in, including cameras, lenses, original branded battery grips, flashguns/speedlights, tripods, and binoculars.

How is the value of my used photo equipment determined?

Our team of photography specialists will carefully inspect your used camera equipment to assess its overall condition, functionality and signs of wear. Based on this assessment, your product will be assigned one of four condition ratings: Like New, Very Good, Good or Fair. The condition rating, along with the product’s model, age, functionality and current market demand, helps us determine its value and provide you with a fair and competitive offer.

What condition does my equipment need to be in?

Your equipment must be in usable working condition to be eligible for trade-in. This means it must power on, operate as intended and have all key features and functions working correctly. Our team of photography specialists will inspect your equipment to assess its functionality and overall condition. While signs of cosmetic wear may be acceptable, any faults or issues affecting performance may impact its eligibility or final valuation.

How long does it take to get an estimate?

If your product is listed in our system, you’ll receive an initial quote instantly when submitting your details online. If your product isn’t listed, our team will manually review your submission and aim to provide an initial quote by the next business day.

How long is the initial estimate guaranteed for?

Your initial trade-in value estimate is valid for 3 business days from the date it’s provided.
Please note that the initial quote is an estimate only. Your final offer will be confirmed once our team has received and inspected your equipment to verify its condition and functionality.

How long does an inspection take?

Once your equipment arrives at our head office, please allow 3 business days for our team of photography specialists to complete the inspection. During this time, we’ll carefully assess your equipment’s condition, functionality and overall quality to confirm its final trade-in value.
Once the inspection is complete, we’ll be in touch with your final offer. You can then decide whether to accept the offer and receive payment via your preferred method or decline and arrange for your equipment to be returned in accordance with our return postage policy.

How much time do I have to send my equipment in?

Once you receive your initial trade-in quote, you’ll have 10 business days to send your equipment to us for assessment. We recommend sending your items as soon as possible to ensure your quote remains valid. If your equipment isn’t received within this timeframe, your quote may expire and a new quote may need to be arranged. Once your equipment arrives, our team will inspect it and confirm the final trade-in offer based on its condition and functionality.

How do I get my equipment to you?

Once your trade-in has been arranged, you’ll receive a consignment note via email, which you can take to your local post office to send your equipment to us with free insured shipping.
You’ll also receive an Ownership Verification Form, which must be completed, signed and returned with your equipment to confirm ownership. Once your gear arrives, our team of photography specialists will inspect it and assess its condition before confirming your final valuation.

Do I need to send my equipment back with all its accessories and in the original packaging?

If you still have the original accessories, such as batteries, chargers, caps or other included items, we recommend sending them with your equipment where possible. You don’t need to include all the original accessories or packaging when sending your equipment to us. However, missing accessories may affect the product’s condition rating and final trade-in value.
Your product also doesn’t need to be returned in its original box or packaging. Simply ensure your equipment is packed securely and protected during transit to help prevent any damage while it’s on its way to us.

How do I find the shutter count on my camera?

If you’re unsure how to find your camera’s shutter count, check your manufacturer’s support website for model-specific instructions.

How do I find the serial (model) number on my camera?

The serial (model) number is usually located on the bottom of your camera or on the barrel or mount of your lens. Depending on the make and model, it may also be found inside the battery compartment or on the original product packaging. You may need to remove the camera or lens cap to locate it. If you’re having trouble finding the serial number, check your product’s user manual or the manufacturer’s website for specific instructions. You’ll need this number when submitting your equipment for a Camera House Second Shot appraisal.

Can I cancel my trade in?

You can cancel your Camera House Second Shot trade-in at any stage of the process before payment has been made. Whether you’ve received an initial estimate, sent your equipment to us or received your final offer, simply contact our team (secondhand@camerahouse.com.au) to let us know you’d like to cancel.
If your equipment has already been received by our head office, our team will arrange for it to be returned to you. Please note that a return postage fee may apply in accordance with our return policy. Once payment has been processed, the trade-in is considered final and can no longer be cancelled.

How do I get my product back if I cancel the trade-in?

If you decide not to accept our final trade-in offer after your equipment has been inspected, you can choose to have your item returned to you. A standard return postage fee of $25 will apply to cover the cost of shipping your equipment back to you. Once you confirm that you would like your item returned, our team will arrange the return shipment and provide any relevant shipping details.
