The technical details behind this camera
Designed for the working professional, the A9 II incorporates a myriad of usable features into a refined design. Targeted at the sports photographer and photo journalist, it offers cracking enhancements to image tracking, and a faster processor empowering action shots like never before. It shoots 20 frames per second with no blackout via the electronic shutter and a blistering 10 frames per second via the mechanical shutter.
The biggest changes on the a9 II are targeted toward those who make a living taking photographs and need to deliver large numbers of them quickly. Moving large images around has its challenges, so Sony have included some really usable features to enhance this flow. Some of the new features include Gigabit Ethernet, 5GHz (802.11ac) Wi-Fi as well as the 2.4GHz and handy voice memo function that allows audio comments to attach to an image to assist in editing and communication with a third party.
This camera offers speed and image quality via its 35mm full-frame stacked 24.2 MP Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with integral memory. As a working professional, shooting at twenty frames per second, silently, and uninterrupted for up to 361 JPEGs in a row, is not just a nice thing to have, it’s a recipe to make you cash. Shooting via mechanical shutter, this camera delivers nearly twice the speed of the original A9.
When a clear shot of a fast moving object is how you make your money, you need to depend on the autofocus system. Onboard you will find a familiar beastly 693-point on-sensor PDAF system backed up by new algorithms to improve subject tracking.
Top three Reasons we think you will love this camera
Our experts opinion
- Serious usability and connectivity
- Autofocus that can make you money
- Speed gives you options. And options make you money.
Sony have always offered game changing technology built with a user in mind. The target user for the A9II, photo journalists and sports photographers are a pretty niche part of the market, but the development of the A9 II is as much an indicator of the ongoing commitment to developing technologies that appear in more consumer related products. Many of the whizzbang features of the original A9 appeared in the RX100 MarkVII and whilst the A9 II is an awesome stand alone product, we look forward to the journey and appreciate the devotion Sony are showing to the art of crafting amazing cameras.
